semhar is my treasure

In my last quarter, four years later...

...I finally love my classes. The content is really fun and interesting - Installation and American Literature - and each class is full of my friends. It's my last quarter, and I'm taking classes with some of my good friends for the first time. I don't know why I didn't do this before - there's something really rewarding about being in an intellectual environment with people you're already comfortable with. Ah, I'm such a nerd...loves it.

"'I just won't sleep,' I decided. There were so many other interesting things to do."

-On the Road, Jack Kerouac

This quarter is completely different from every other quarter I've had at this University, because
A) I'm only taking two classes
and
B) I got to chose both classes, and neither of them are Econ related.

It's great. I'm finally relaxing, finally knocking troubling things off my to-do list, finally appreciating life again. I'm reading On the Road for my American Lit class, and despite the fact that this is supposed to be a pivotal American work, reading about Kerouac's adventures traveling across the US is just making me sleepy. I suppose I haven't given the book enough time to actually get good, but I really hate it when work is unpleasant, and I was looking forward to reading this book.

Still, reading this book is inspiring me to start writing about myself again, because anyone who knows me knows that my life has spawned hundreds of good stories. I stopped writing - completely - about 9 months ago. It's been difficult trying to get back into it - I stopped writing because I felt like everything coming out of my mouth (fingers?) was contrived and unnatural. The best stuff is what's real and raw - you just have to be open to letting it come out.

So...On the Road is disappointing. Part One is, at least, but I'm holding judgement until the end of Part Four. I just can't tell if it's Kerouac's adventures themselves that make me excited to write about myself, or the fact that I know my stories more exciting... although I suppose I'm a little biased towards myself.
